Black Harmony, Untold and Eternity

On Tuesday 1 July 2025, the Black Heritage Festival will be festively concluded with the Keti Koti Winti Concert in the main hall of Kunstlinie. The companies Black Harmony, Untold and Eternity will present a unique musical production focusing on the rich African-Surinamese culture.

This special concert focuses on the origin and importance of the Apinti drum. This traditional percussion instrument, originating from West Africa, served as a means of communication during slavery in Suriname and has deep spiritual significance within the Winti religion.

The Keti Koti Winti Concert tells in a theatrical and musical way the story of the Apinti drum and its role in African-Surinamese heritage. Be taken on a journey through the history and meaning of this instrument, supported by enchanting singing, rhythmic percussion and dance.

Keti Koti festival Almere 2025

This concert will take place during the Keti Koti festival Almere 2025. Keti Koti - meaning 'broken chains' - marks the abolition of slavery in the former Dutch colonies on 1 July 1863. Kunstlinie and the Esplanade together form the beating heart of this meaningful day, filled with music, art, food, workshops and performances for young and old. Everyone is welcome!
