Open Monument Day at Schaapskooi

During Open Monument Day, we will open the doors of the Schaapskooi in the Vroege Vogelbos Forest on Saturday 12 September from 1pm to 4pm. Using the theme Resilient Heritage as inspiration, our manager and a sheep shearer will tell the story of sheep, the different breeds and the special properties of wool. Wool has been a sustainable and versatile natural product for centuries, making it a fine example of living heritage that is still relevant today.

Visitors can feel wool and discover how sheep contribute to nature management. Sheepskins may also be for sale. The location makes this activity extra special: the Vroege Vogelbos is Almere's oldest forest and even older than the city itself. This makes the forest a living link between the birth of Almere, the 50th anniversary of the city, the 40th anniversary of Flevoland and the story of nature, landscape and resilience through time. This activity is free of charge. Registration is not necessary.
