Oostvaardersplassen
The history of Oostvaardersplassen is special. When the Flevopolder was drained in 1968, this wet area remained unused. Nature seized its chance and a swamp with ponds, reed beds and willow forests emerged. The reed swamp soon became a habitat for many, often unusual, bird species. As breeding grounds, hiding places or to look for food.

Oostvaardersplassen are an internationally renowned bird paradise. The dykes around the area are real 'bird boulevards'. Almost half of the Northwest European population of greylag geese come to Oostvaardersplassen to moult. Some stay to breed. It is also one of the most important nesting areas for spoonbills in western Europe and home to one of the largest cormorant colonies. Oostvaardersplassen is also rich in birds of prey. Almost nowhere can so many species be seen in a single day.
The walk takes about 1.5 hours with a mini classical music concert at various points. Who will be playing? That's still a surprise...
