Casa del Libro celebrates Fiep Westendorp
In the richly illustrated biography *Fiep: The Life and Work of Fiep Westendorp*, Annette Portegies and Gioia Smid provide the first comprehensive account of the life, career and multifaceted body of work of one of the Netherlands’ most beloved illustrators.
In this episode of Casa del Libro, Garrelt Verhoeven talks to Annette Portegies, author of the book and, in real life, a publisher at Queriodo Facto in Amsterdam. Drawing on previously unseen documents, drawings and personal stories, they shed light on the life of Fiep Westendorp: her artistic development, her collaboration with Annie M.G. Schmidt, her significance for Dutch illustration and the woman behind the iconic images that still capture the collective imagination.
