Reading aloud with dance workshop (4+)

The 50th anniversary was celebrated in grand style with a festive read-aloud and a cheerful dance workshop at De Nieuwe Bibliotheek. Writer Nancy Bosmans read from her book Een feest voor iedereen, about Almere children who go on adventures in different parts of the city. Afterwards, the children danced to discover the rich mix of cultures that makes Almere so unique.

And a birthday treat! Afterwards, all children received a festive book treat to take home.

About the book
To mark its 50th anniversary, De Nieuwe Bibliotheek developed a special children's book, written and illustrated for and about Almere. In the story, Amma moves to Almere. In the library, she finds a map of the city and, together with her dog Bibo, sets off on an exploration. Een feest voor iedereen! is written by Nancy Bosmans and illustrated by Lisa van Winsen. During this festive moment, Nancy Bosmans herself read from her book.

About the dance workshop
Who lived in your neighbourhood? Did you recognise their culture? Maybe you shared the same background, or maybe you were just curious about how others think, live and move.

During the dance workshop, children were taken on a journey through Almere. By dancing together, they got to know different cultures and got to know each other better. For instance, they flew a kite with Minh from Vietnam, marched on the Surinamese Awassa and danced with their hands during a henna ceremony. In this way, different cultures came to life.

The workshop concluded with a cheerful mini-caravan in which all children presented their dance - a feast for everyone, just like the city of Almere.
