Compagnie Red Yellow & Blue - Katwijk
Katwijk - a black comedy about intergenerational speech confusion, (self-)acceptance and Queer Identity
After Who's Afraid of Oscar Wilde, Compagnie Red Yellow & Blue returns with Katwijk, a performance that touches on painfully recognisable themes in a light-hearted tone.
When Andrea, in her late fifties, invites her lesbian daughter Joosje for a weekend away because her friends cancel at the last minute, a journey begins in which parental love, speech confusion and mental health collide. Joosje, struggling with burnout, takes her best friend Laurens to the luxurious bungalow in rainy Katwijk - until hidden tensions and the manuscript in Joosje's bag cause the cosiness to turn into a subtle mental joust.

Compagnie Red Yellow & Blue is a young and energetic company, founded in 2018 by Daan van Bendegem, characterised by a direct and cheeky play without detours. Their work plays full on topical themes and is literary sharp, but always accessible. After the success with Who's Afraid of Oscar Wilde, in which four queer millennials wrestled with child desire and societal conventions, they build on their mission with Katwijk: to bring poetry and queer theatre to a wide audience by combining humour, sharpness and recognisability.
It is precisely this combination - a mix of heightened everyday, sexual diversity, and open-heartedness - that makes the company special for the lhbti+ community. They give a platform to queer perspectives, showing them in everyday life and breaking clichés and taboos with a dose of humour and reflection. Katwijk zooms in on the dynamics between straight parents and queer children, on identity, acceptance and how people sometimes stray into their own well-meaning intentions - a performance that connects, moves and makes you think, while giving you plenty of laughs.
