Carrying Power
Some women are not in the history books. They didn't get statues or honorary titles. They cared, waited, persevered. And yet something about them was passed down from generation to generation. 'Carrying Power' is about the women from Indonesia, the Moluccas and the former Dutch East Indies who carried history without history calling them by name. Women whose stories were deliberately kept out of history for generations, but who were indispensable in times of war, colonisation and resistance. Who cared for their families, risked their lives for a world that did not recognise them, who fought without words and built patiently. Choreographer Cheroney Pelupessy pays well-deserved tribute with an intimate dance performance that gives them that space, without detours. In bodies that know what words cannot say.
