About Black Pencil ’s land art music
All the land art music has been written by Dutch composers who drew inspiration from the artworks and their surroundings. By visiting the locations, walking around and experiencing the atmosphere of the landscape, compositions were created that capture the unique atmosphere and energy of each place and artwork. Now, in 2026, the time has come: every artwork in the Province of Flevoland has its own Black Pencil composition; written especially for the five musicians of the Almere-based ensemble with their unique mix of instruments. You’ll hear the pieces ‘Exposure’ and ‘TIJ’ live for the first time on location at the land art installation itself, whilst the pieces ‘Riff’ and ‘Shard’ will even be receiving their world premieres. The concerts on 29 and 30 August are being organised in collaboration with Natuurmonumenten and the Musical Instrument Fund, and form part of Natuurmonumenten’s ‘Music & Monuments’ concert series. With thanks to LandArtFlevoland for their support and advice.
