Papagena & Friends - 'Love, Legends & Lullabies'

The vocal ensemble Papagena, harpist Victoria Davies and flautist Francesca Clements perform a mix of songs from different centuries, from Purcell and Monteverdi to Celtic ballads and some brand new compositions.

Leading British a cappella group Papagena will perform a varied programme, with music from several centuries: from medieval religious works and contemporary madrigals to melodic Celtic ballads, folk legends and lullabies. But also brand new compositions!

The ensemble combines music by composers such as Purcell, Monteverdi, MacMillan and Sandy Denny with a comic composition on lyrics by Caitlin Moran. Dutch composers Wilma Pistorius and Rens Tienstra are also featured in this programme, which revolves around music for female voices and the connection between English and Dutch choral traditions. A fascinating musical journey, with something beautiful for everyone.

Papagena is an a cappella ensemble from England that explores the beautiful music written specifically for female voices, from the Middle Ages to the present day. Five phenomenal voices, pure and unadorned - no microphones, props or other distractions. The singers are classically trained and together bring a wealth of experience: from conducting and composing to solo roles in operas, oratorios and even playing the saxophone.

Papagena is a welcome guest on British radio and TV. The ensemble works with renowned companies such as the Orchestra of the Swan in London and Ex Cathedra in Bristol. Suzzie Vango, a founding member, also wrote the book 'How to make you choir sound great', which has been published by several publishers.

Other performers in this concert are Victoria Davies, harp and Francesca Clement, recorder. Both from Almere!
