Biebwalk connects Haven and Stad during anniversary celebration

Colourful Biebwalk marks 50 years of The New Library

Almere - On 18 December, the festive Haven to Stad Biebwalk took place to mark the 50th anniversary of both De Nieuwe Bibliotheek and the city of Almere. (Former) employees, volunteers and guests of the library together walked the route from Almere Haven to De Nieuwe Bibliotheek Stad , marking a special milestone in the history of the city and its library.

The walk started in Almere Haven, where De Nieuwe Bibliotheek had its origins 50 years ago, and ended in the heart of the city. Upon arrival in Stad, participants were festively welcomed by the GDFL Brass Band, whose music provided a warm and energetic welcome.

Reception and unveiling of anniversary book

A reception with snacks and drinks followed in De Nieuwe Bibliotheek Stad . During the unveiling of the anniversary book More than words, mayor Hein van der Loo accepted the first copy.

During this moment, Marianne Herweijer, Manager Marketing, Culture and Education of De Nieuwe Bibliotheek, Annerie Brenninkmeijer, Director of De Nieuwe Bibliotheek, and Mayor Hein van der Loo talked about the shared history of Almere and the library. They reflected on the development of De Nieuwe Bibliotheek, which was there from the start and grew with the city: from a first branch in a construction site, via a branch in an Almere living room, to a network of libraries in several districts of Almere.

Library and city moving together

The Haven tot Stad Biebwalk symbolises this joint development: a walk through the history of Almere and De Nieuwe Bibliotheek, as well as a look ahead to the future.

The specially compiled podwalk on which the walk is based will remain available even after the anniversary celebrations and can be picked up free of charge at all branches of De Nieuwe Bibliotheek, so that all Almereans can experience this route for themselves.
